Josh Taylor says he was 'blind for about three rounds' by sustaining gruesome eye injury against Reg

Josh Taylor said he was left 'blind for three rounds' after suffering a gruesome eye injury during his fight with Regis Prograis.

The Scot's right eye swelled up after clashing heads with his opponent.

However, the injury didn't ruin Taylor's chances as he managed to secure the win by majority decision.

The Tartan Tornado was not the favourite to come out on top but he blew away the American with judges' scores of 114-114, 115-113 and 117-112.

With that victory, Taylor is the super-lightweight World Boxing Super Series holder and is now the unified champion.

He was taken to hospital immediately afterwards to get checked out but unsurprisingly woke up on Sunday morning in buoyant mood.

Speaking about his eye last night, the 28-year-old said: "Tactics went out of the window because I was blind for about three rounds.

"I couldn't see anything from this side. I was fighting on instinct and just heart and determination."

In the morning, he took to his Instagram story to show the full extent of his eye injury.

He said: "Well everybody, waking up here with a brand-new-looking face, looking absolutely beautiful as you can see.

"I feel like Popeye here but do you know what small price to pay.

"I feel amazing waking up unified world champ in only 16 fights - absolutely brilliant. I feel over the moon, I'm ecstatic. I'm blown away by what I've just achieved.

"I want to say a massive thank you to every single one of you who has taken time to message and say congratulations - I would try and get back to everyone but would be here for a month straight.
